AI Spotlight #4

January 30th, 2023

This week features 8 interesting pieces of generative art I came across - from 2 intricate monsters with flowers to a realistic couple to cupcakes and a lambo... we have the first few tools that use AI to generate memes (spoiler alert - it still needs a lot of polishing). A tool to help you network faster on LinkedIn. A great article from wired about how smell based industries are being affected by new developments in the space. A great thread on googles sneak peek at their music AI.

These 2 incredibly intricate and beautiful pieces that stood out to me. The alien and the dragon look so detailed, love the flowers as well.

This incredibly realistic render from a whole set by Vivian Aier << created using MidJourney.

This adorable cat in a little car by Mulumbu#7706 on Discord using MidJourney.

Sabrina likes to generate AI art of old cars. Out of a whole group, this one really stood out to me from the variety of Lambos she posted.

https://www.supermeme.ai/ - I spent some time with this really fun tool that's very easy to use. It uses AI to generate memes. You can either freestyle it with an idea and let the AI automatically choose or do a specific theme.

So my first try... it actually was not funny at all (LOL)

I decided to try this one and keep it fairly simple. It generated almost 20 per try, which is good because it lets you check out various templates to edit. Only 2 were somewhat funny, partly because of how simple but absurd they were.

This idea of ai generated memes is pretty interesting because... realistically... how easily can ai really pick up the nuances of cultural/internet history of how a meme originated, how it spread and evolved over time? How it's supposed to be funny but then sometimes gets adopted by a counter culture community that uses it in an ironic manner which then goes back to being a post ironic normal. How it gets remixed over time with other trends on various mediums & platforms from photo to text to video to audio to back to text. Interesting to think about.

This great wired article about software at Google Research to predict the scent of molecules based on their structure alone. Osmo aims to create the next generation of aroma molecules for everyday products, addressing the difficulties in sourcing raw ingredients in the $30 billion fragrance industry. Worth a read if you want to see how AI is affecting various industries outside of just traditional tech/software.

https://wonsulting.com - Ai tool for networking and resume building. I tested out the networking side. It lets you choose what exactly you are trying to achieve, which job function and what company. Using GPT it generates these opening messages for you to send to people on LinkedIn who might be able to help connect you to the right people.

To be honest, I would actually use this tool way more if there was a chrome plugin where I can have a little button I click on a LinkedIn profile rather than go back to this site to generate it each time. I also wish this tool had additional options for customization as well.

This great thread by Alex about Google's new music AI sneak peek. The thread has some examples as well to listen to.
