AI Spotlight #5

February 15th, 2023

After a brief break, we are back and on a new day of delivery (Wednesday!) This week features 9 interesting pieces of generative art I came across - from 90s style 8-bit sprite mechs to a realistic burger. I'm a big fan of watercolor generations they come out beautiful, have a few of them this week... One of the most interesting developments is RunwayML and its new Gen-1 update that allows you to stylize existing videos in different styles. There are 3-4 videos of people who have been playing with this tool in incredible ways that I have included here. There are also generative photo to videos with examples of NeRF ai which really helps showcase potential of creativity of the next generation of media. Finally KNOLLING (I had no idea what that word meant but now its my favorite thing ever)

These 2 pieces of incredible 8-bit artwork that looks straight out of an 80s arcade machine by @prime_generations on IG.

This great generation by @emli on IG. This was created using Dalle 2 and it really stood out to me as one of the better realistic renders I have seen so far.

This chinese watercolor experiment by AICONNOR#6379 on Midjourney. Felt like a movie poster to me.

Big fan of these watercolor generations.

Check out the thread below by Linus on how to create knolls. Its incredibly aesthetically pleasing!

This thread below by Jussi going into detail about how he utilized AI to prompt and generate the character which he took into other tools to create an ai assisted 3d model. The full read is also great if you want to go into detail about how he took it from idea to execution as well.

Andrew Hall utilized a combination of Stable Diffusion & NeRF (from Nvidia to turn 2d into 3d scenes to create an edit of a Honda changing colors in the parking lot.) I think it gives a great look into how amateur enthusiats can utilize combinations of these technologies to create incredibly well polished content. Take a look under the tweet to learn more about NeRF from NVIDIAs blog.

A NeRF is a neural network that represents and renders realistic 3D scenes based on an input collection of 2D images, and it requires a few dozen images taken from multiple positions around the scene to be fed to the neural network. nstant NeRF accelerates rendering time by several orders of magnitude and could be used in various industries such as architecture, entertainment, and robotics according to the article s

Last week, Runway ML also released Gen-1 of their new AI model that lets you generate new videos out of existing ones. Take a look at some of the example tweets of what people have already been able to do.

https://bestaiprompts.art is an interesting website I came across that actually sells prompts in bulk.  I can see this being the start of ai artists eventually starting to bundle all of their unique styles together as a method of monetization in the near future.

ScribbleAI is an iphone app created by Jayaditya Sethi & his university cofounders. Built on top of chatGPT, they have created an easy to use UI on an iphone app that lets users craft text replies based off various styles that they have coordinated with emojis.

https://stockimg.ai - Out of all of their services, I found the thumbnail generator to be the one that gave me the most consistent outputs that can easily be compared to the icons you see on mobile games.

Want me to post more art and skip the links? Want me to look for more ai generated videos or tools instead? Want to refer me to someone to talk who is building cool stuff to feature? Let me know :)
